Martin Steingesser is the author of three collections, Yellow Horses, Brothers of Morning, and The Thinking Heart: The Life & Loves of Etty Hillesum, whose entries, derived from Hillesum’s writings, have been composed and arranged for the stage. Performances of The Thinking Heart toured in New England and in Europe, most notably at the international Etty Hillesum Congress in Belgium. Steingesser was Poet Laureate of Portland from 2007 to 2009.
