Black Kettle Farm is on five acres of rocky, hilltop farmland in Lyman, Maine. Laura Neale bought the land ten years ago and converted the once conventional cornfields into acres of diverse organic vegetables, herbs and flowers. Laura and her crew utilize ecological farming practices that give back to the soil and are committed to a socially responsible practice that seeks to get good, healthy food out into the local community. The farm has long operated as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program offering discounted Senior shares and working with the nearby food pantry. They transitioned this year into a local food buying club to connect more people with local products and get good food out into the community. In addition to the produce grown at Black Kettle, people can pick up fresh cheeses, meat, mushrooms, maple syrup, kraut, berries and other goods being grown and produced by neighboring farmers.

Members begin to recognize what’s in season…and there’s a connection formed between the member and the farmer. People become aware of what’s going on at the farm…fostering connections….
