Friday, June 20, from 5 – 7 p.m., Emery Community Arts Center (ECAC) will hold the Opening Reception for art created by members of Gold LEAF Institute, the senior college at the University of Maine at Farmington. The display, entitled “The Art Among Us3”, has been in the planning since last fall and features a wide variety of work by more than 30 local artists featuring acrylics, fiber, prints, needlepoint, sketches, photos, wood, glass, mosaics and more. Each artist can display up to five pieces.
The first “The Art Among Us” exhibit was held with great success in the summer of 2018. It was followed by a second exhibition in the summer of 2022. For Ann Bartges, Director of the Emery Community Arts Center (ECAC), this exhibition stands out as a special opportunity to showcase the deep creative energy in Franklin County. “One of my favorite things about living in Farmington is being part of this huge community of artists. Bringing this artwork to Emery gives the larger public an opportunity to celebrate the dedicated creative practices of our local artists.” Joe Terranova of Chesterville served as chair of the committee that pulled this exhibit together. Several had been involved in producing earlier exhibitions.
Many of those artists will be in attendance Friday, June 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. as ECAC hosts the opening reception. This event is free and open to the public. The Emery Arts Center gallery is located on Academy St. (between Main St. and High St.) in downtown Farmington. Summer viewing hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Please check Emery’s website for holiday closures.
Artists displaying their work will also be present for a “Meet the Artists” Event from 4 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. It is hoped that many folks attending the Summerfest events will come to the gallery to wrap up their day.
“The Art Among Us3” is just one of many Gold LEAF Institute events promoting life-long learning. Summer term listings can be viewed at www.goldleafinstitute.org.
“The Art Among Us3” exhibit will run from June 20 through August 21, 2025.
