Free and open to the public.
The Western Maine Music Series will bring regional bands to Farmington, with a focus on indie rock, pop, punk, and r&b. We are committed to a vision of music-making that is culturally diverse, ground-up, community-oriented, and diy, and are excited to showcase student musicians from UMF alongside acts from Maine and elsewhere in New England.
The series is co-coordinated by Matthew Houston and Éireann Lorsung and is intended to complement Farmington’s array of diverse cultural offerings. We see the WMMS as being in conversation with musical and theater programming run by community organizations, the New Commons Project at UMF, the A Clearing project run by Meg Willing and Alana Dao, as well as with the wider literary and artistic life of western Maine.
Our fall semester lineup includes Crunchcoat (20 September) with Samantha Taylor opening, and An Anderson (18 October) with an opener TBA. Crunchcoat plays upbeat pop-punk with a California vibe. An Anderson (guitarist Dan Smith is a UMF alum!) makes meditative, dancy, hypnotic, sonically adventurous post-rock.
