Artist Talk with Katrina Majkut

The UMF Art on Campus Program welcomes Spring ’18 featured artist Katrina Majkut to campus for an artist talk on Friday, February 16th at 12pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Majkut’s artwork is on view in Mantor Library from January 22-May 25, 2018.

The UMF Art on Campus Program is sponsored by the H. King & Jean Cummings Charitable Fund of the Maine Community Foundation and the UMF Office of the President.

About the Artist:

Katrina Majkut (My’kut) is a visual artist and writer living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She is dedicated to exploring and understanding how social traditions impact civil rights. Majkut’s research and findings are represented in her writing and through mediums such as embroidery and painting. Majkut published her first non-fiction book, The Adventures and Discoveries of a Feminist Bride: What No One Tells You Before You Say ‘I Do’ with Black Rose Writing in March 2018. The book examines Western wedding traditions with feminism, humor and self-deprecating anecdotes.

She recently did an art Instagram takeover for Planned Parenthood,  exhibited at Spring Break with The Untitled Gallery (NY), A.I.R. Gallery (NY), Future Tenant (PA), Bloomsburg University (PA), and University of Maine at Farmington. She will have a solo show at Harford Community College (DE) in the fall.  She was also an Artist in Residence at MASS MoCA. Majkut has been featured in multiple publications including the Huffington Post, VICE Communication’s Broadly, listed as one of four international artists starting a new chapter in feminist art by Mic Media, thrice highlighted as a must-see artist in the Gowanus Open Studios by Hyperallergic. Her art catalogues are in several library collections including the National Museum of Women in the Arts,D.C.
