BRIGHTSPACE VIRTUAL SUMMIT

To assist faculty across the University to best leverage the pending transition in Learning Management System from Blackboard Learn to Desire2Learn’s Brightspace, the Brightspace implementation core team, led by the Educational Technology Advisory Committee and members of the US:IT team, designed and delivered the UMS Brightspace Virtual Symposium in May 2020.  This 2-day virtual training event was designed for faculty to learn, explore and experience the Brightspace Learning Management environment through a series of sessions led by faculty colleagues and experts.  The sessions focused on how Brightspace differs from Blackboard, how to use the Brightspace environment effectively, and time-saving tips and tricks.  The event was kicked off with an introduction from the University of Maine System Chancellor, Dannel Malloy, and a keynote address from Desire2Learn CEO John Baker.

The event was a tremendous success, with over 900 participants registered to attend one or more interactive sessions across the two days.

This was the first fully virtual faculty conference conducted using the Zoom web conferencing tool.
