May 2021 Newsletter

CIO MESSAGE

UMS Colleagues,

Thank you for taking the time to review this edition of the IT Connections newsletter.  In this edition, you will find important information on the progress that has been made on key projects, including improved processes to support Information and Communication Technology evaluation/review, several Data Governance initiatives, the final phase of the Box to OneDrive migration, and the successful Cybersecurity Student Internship Program.  Additionally, we are pleased to announce the $1M award from the USDA Rural Utilities Service program to expand access to telemedicine and telehealth across the state.  This award will provide critical videoconferencing infrastructure investment on each UMS campus.

With the increased demand and use of the Zoom videoconferencing platform over the past year, we would also like to highlight an important update on the official Zoom Cloud Video Storage policy.  Please note the timing of scheduled Zoom Cloud Storage maintenance periods where recordings will be removed to free storage for newer recordings.

Finally, as we wrap up our first, and hopefully last, full Academic COVID-19 Year, we have included information on the support the IT team has provided to facilitate ongoing testing and vaccination verification to all members of the UMS.  Notably, the use of multiple platforms to coordinate the collection and reporting of test results as well as the ability to upload copies of vaccination cards for testing and quarantine exemption eligibility.

Thank you again for visiting the IT Connections newsletter.  We hope you have plans for a joyous and relaxing summer.

Sincerely,

David M. Demers, Ph.D.,
Chief Information Officer
